A number-sequence book on KDP is a paperback: trim, page count, Look Inside, and enough variation that page 40 does not feel like page 4. It is not another sudoku interior with a new cover, and it is not a single classroom worksheet uploaded as a book.
Smart Numbers builds those pages: hidden-rule sequences, missing numbers, matching answers. This page is why the interior is the product. How-to lives in the Smart Numbers tutorial guide.
Why this shelf is not another sudoku book
Sudoku and word search interiors are easy to recognize in Look Inside and easy to clone. A number-sequence page looks different: a line of values and a blank. That is useful on Amazon because the first interior pages have to do the selling.
The risk is the opposite of sudoku’s familiarity. If every page is 2, 4, 6, 8, ?, the shopper who opens Look Inside has already seen the whole book. The listing has to promise, and the interior has to deliver, sequences that change: arithmetic next to an alternating step, a small recursive line after a beginner add-two. Formula families are how Smart Numbers makes that a book instead of a pad of the same rule.
That is an angle, not a ranking. The commercial point is only this: the page must not look like the ten sudoku interiors already in that niche, and it must not flatten after the sample.
The interior is the product
On KDP the buyer is paying for a bound object. Page count is a print-cost decision, not a flex. A longer book that repeats the same Easy arithmetic is a worse Look Inside than a shorter book with a visible climb.
What “done” means here:
- A real trim. Common puzzle sizes are 8.5×11, 8×10, and 6×9; pick the one the type size can survive in print. A cramped Expert line in 8-point type is a different product from a large-print beginner book.
- A solutions section that is part of the file, not a leftover folder of images.
- Honest difficulty in the title and on page one. If the cover says easy, Look Inside is easy. Easy / Medium / Hard / Expert are labels; number range and how many sequences sit on the page also change how hard it feels.
- A progression a series can repeat. One themed interior is a listing. Three related interiors (beginner / mixed / hard) from the same style are a catalog.
Puzzle Book Studio is the assembly step: sets, layout, preview, print PDF. The Smart Numbers side of that is already written in How to Use Smart Numbers with Puzzle Book Studio. This page will not repeat it.
A 120-page climb from simple arithmetic to harder recursive lines is a book shape, not a sales result. Capacity indicators exist so a large page count does not silently reuse the same sequences. If the indicator says you asked for more puzzles than the settings can uniquely supply, that is a listing problem, not a generate-button problem.
What Look Inside has to show
- Page one is a real sequence page, not a copyright brick.
- The first puzzle matches the cover (large print if you promised large print, easy if you promised easy).
- At least two different rule-families appear early enough that the sample is not one trick.
- Type size and line length survive print. Hexadecimal rendering is a different listing from a decimal kids’ book. Do not surprise the shopper.
- The answer style (question mark vs dots) is consistent. Mixing them in one title looks unfinished.
The four-channel map is the product-form article. A TPT Smart Numbers file is a short classroom page; this is the paperback. Do not upload the KDP PDF as a worksheet and hope.
What you can reuse
Reuse the formula settings, the type, the difficulty bands, the answer-key data.
Change per title: page count, trim, the first page, the cover promise, whether this is a beginner book or an Expert collection.
Time Saver (Productivity) is the batch path when you want Easy / Medium / Hard as separate sets in one run, then assemble them in Studio. Do not turn this article into a Time Saver tutorial.
Productivity also lists Interactive PDF, JSON, and Puzzle Slides as extra files; a KDP interior is still a print PDF, not an online game.
Commercial rights for puzzle books on KDP are part of the Puzzle Maker Pro license as stated on the homepage. That is not a substitute for Amazon’s content rules.
The whole point
A Smart Numbers KDP book is a number-sequence interior that still looks different on page 40. Make the pattern families the listing, make the first pages match the cover, put the answers in the back, and leave the single worksheet for TPT.
