The Last Square They Fill Is Your Photograph

Your reader works the runs, counts the clues, and the grid stops being numbers. It becomes the lighthouse, the skyline, the face from the cover, because every clue was built from a picture you chose.

That is the Nonogram moment, picross, griddler, hanjie: row and column counts, filled cells, a picture at the end. Publishers skip it because one honest 25 by 25 used to mean an afternoon of cell counting and a second afternoon when two silhouettes both fit the same clues.

Nonogram is a nonogram puzzle generator that turns your photographs into those pages. Drop in the images you already shot. Each run writes the clue gutter on the problem image and a matching solution image in the same pass. Leave Only uniquely solvable puzzles on, the default, when you want the generator to hunt a board a person can finish without guessing.

A 25 by 25 black-and-white nonogram puzzle with its row and column clues around an empty grid
The clues are the instruction. The photograph is the prize.

Why Picross Still Stops a Shopper Who Has Seen a Hundred Logic Grids

Sudoku is digits. Word search is letters. A Nonogram is the page they notice from three feet away: a half-solved picture, not another empty lattice.

The rule fits in two sentences. Each number is a run of filled cells on that line. What your reader has not done, until now, is recover your picture from those counts.

Plenty of catalogs still skip the type because the clue sheet was the bottleneck. You skip the week. You drop in the photos you already have for the cover, the class, or the series.

What You Can Create

  • A picross book from your own photographs, one image per puzzle, cover art waiting as page one
  • Black-and-White collections that read like the magazine grids solvers already know
  • Word and drawn-design pages from Creative up: type a word, or paint your own picture on the grid editor
  • Printable sheets at 10 by 10 or 25 by 25, each with a full-size solution for marking
  • Large grids up to 90 on a side when you want a long sit
  • Mixed logic books where this is the visual chapter beside types you already publish
  • Worksheet packs for Etsy or Teachers Pay Teachers: one source picture in, one puzzle page out

Twenty pictures make twenty puzzles, one per image, in list order. Folders expand in the source list.

Drop In the Photo. The Clues Write Themselves.

Hand-drawn picross is how a wrong clue reaches print. Here the photograph is the specification. Set rows and columns. The module center-crops to that aspect, samples each cell, and writes the runs.

Set the Darkness threshold until the silhouette is the one you meant.

Leave unique on when you want the generator to hunt one right fill. Switch unique off and it runs one full solve at the size you typed. Either way you get a problem image with the clue gutter and a solution you can print with or without clues on the key.

Trim blank rows and columns at the edges when you want the picture tight. Smart Titles can pull the image file name, folder name, and grid size so a folder of city photos names itself.

From Creative up, the picture does not have to be a photograph. Type a word on the Text tab and pick the font, and the word becomes the puzzle. Or paint your own design on the grid editor, which shows the clues as you draw and tells you whether the design has one solution.

From One Picture to a Whole Picross Book

One photograph is a puzzle. A book is a stack of photographs at the sizes your readers can finish, each with its own solution image.

Same size: lengthen the image list. Mixed chapters need Time Saver on Productivity: each row is a chapter with its own size and image folder. One puzzle still needs one image.

Instant Puzzle Books is on every edition: a finished book PDF from the page settings you already have. Puzzle Book Studio, also on every edition, lets you edit that interior page by page. On Productivity, several collections can share one spine. Every book carries a title page, contents, and a puzzle-to-solution footer on each page.

On Productivity, the same set can leave the desktop as JSON for your own catalog tools when your export flags are on.

Can I sell what I make?
Yes, from the first edition up. Productivity adds supply rights for the puzzle files.

Put Your Picture on the Page They Finish

Without a visual logic title, the next book is another grid of numbers or letters. With one, the shopper sees your photograph hiding inside the clues.
