Halloween Activity Packet for PreK-2: Build a Class-Party Packet to Sell on TPT

Every October, the same searches climb: halloween worksheets for kindergarten, halloween worksheets for preschool, halloween class party activities, halloween activity packet printable. The person typing them is usually a teacher with a party on the calendar, a room of twenty-two children, and one planning period to sort it out.

That teacher doesn’t want a puzzle book. They want a packet: a stack of pages that work for the kids in front of them, print cleanly on the school copier, and come with answer keys they don’t have to make. If you sell on Teachers Pay Teachers, a well-built Halloween activity packet is one of the most useful things you can list this month.

This guide shows how to build one for preK through grade 2, which tool makes which pages, and how to get it listed while teachers are still planning.

What a class-party packet is (and isn’t)

A class-party packet sits between two products teachers already know.

  • It isn’t a single warm-up page. It’s 10 to 20 pages, so a teacher can run stations or send a few pages home.
  • It isn’t a homework packet either. The pages are lighter, more visual and more fun, because they’ll be done between cupcakes and a costume parade.

If you want the general rules for those two shapes (page counts, key placement, listing promises), classroom warm-up vs homework packet covers them. This page is about one seasonal packet, and about the one decision that matters most for it: preK-K children and grade 1-2 children need different kinds of pages.

Two bands, two kinds of page

  • PreK and kindergarten need pictures first and almost no reading. Trace a path, count the pumpkins, match a shape to its shadow, finish a simple maze, color a page. A child who can’t read yet should be able to do every page with one sentence of instruction from the teacher.
  • Grades 1 and 2 can read short words, and they like to solve something. A small word search, a word scramble with a couple of letters showing, a fill-in grid where the word bank does the work.

One packet can hold both, as long as each page says which band it suits. That’s what lets a teacher with a mixed class, or a K-1 combo room, buy one file instead of two.

An example page order for a preK-2 Halloween class-party packet: a cover and teacher notes, then five preK-K picture pages from Halloween Activity Book Builder (trace the path, count the pumpkins, match the shadows, simple maze, low-ink coloring), then three grade 1-2 word puzzles from Puzzle Maker Pro (a word search with words across and down, a word scramble with hint letters, and a fill-in grid with a word bank), then answer keys and a terms-of-use page

The preK-K pages: illustrated, ready-made, fast

This is the half that takes longest by hand, because every page needs art you’re allowed to sell, and the art has to be turned into an activity.

Halloween Activity Book Builder (affiliate link) is a browser-based tool from Thien Nhan, sold on WarriorPlus from 7 October 2026 (16:00 CEST) at a $17 introductory price. It’s made for exactly these pages. According to its sales page, it includes:

  • 12 activity families with 3 layouts each. The sample pages show tracing paths, counting objects, picture and shadow matching, simple mazes, complete-the-pattern, low-ink coloring, story sequencing, cut and build, and kindness cards.
  • 116 Halloween art assets: friendly ghosts, black cats, owls, bats and pumpkins in 72 poses, plus 24 props, 8 scenes and 12 motifs. You can add your own PNG or SVG art too.
  • A low-ink option, which matters more for a classroom than almost anything else. A full-color page photocopied in grey turns into a dark smudge. Low-ink line art copies cleanly.
  • US Letter pages, the size a US classroom printer expects, plus 8 × 10 and A4.
  • Answer keys for the activities that need them.
  • A seller ZIP with three listing images and product-description drafts written for general use, Etsy and TPT, plus a pre-publish checklist.

I haven’t bought it, so I can’t show you pages of my own. The sales page has 20 sample interior pages, and that’s your test: if the art style suits the teachers you sell to, the Builder covers this half of the packet. My Halloween Activity Book Builder review goes through the upgrades, the refund policy and what the vendor doesn’t promise.

Two classroom notes. Kindness cards suit a party well: children can color one and give it to a classmate. And cut-and-build pages are fine in a printable packet, since the teacher prints single sheets, but say “scissors needed” in your teacher notes.

The grade 1-2 pages: real word puzzles with keys

The Builder’s activity list doesn’t include word searches, word scrambles or fill-in grids. Those come from a puzzle generator, and that’s what Puzzle Maker Pro is: Windows desktop software that builds puzzles from your own word lists and settings, with matching solutions. It’s the deep, flexible half of this packet; the Builder is the quick, illustrated half.

Start with one short Halloween word list, 15 to 20 words of three to six letters: bat, cat, owl, web, moon, broom, candy, ghost, treat, mask, witch, pumpkin. Then build these pages from it.

A grade 1 word search. In Standard Word Search, use an 8×8 to 10×10 grid with six to eight words, running across and down only, with diagonals and backwards words switched off. That matches the K-1 band in our TPT word search worksheets guide, which has the full grade-band table and the page setup in detail.

A grade 2 step up. Same list, a 10×10 grid, and the Kid’s Diagonal setting, which adds diagonal words that read top-left to bottom-right only. Children get something new to find without having to read backwards.

A word scramble. Word Scramble scrambles your list and can show hint letters. Raise the hint ratio for grade 1 so a few letters already show. The minimum-length setting decides how long a word must be before any letter shows, so you can leave BAT fully scrambled and give hints only on longer words like GHOST. Every puzzle comes with a matching answer key.

A fill-in grid. In Criss Cross, choose Word Fill instead of written clues. The words still cross in a grid, but a word bank grouped by length replaces the numbered clues. Set Clue List Output to In Image so the bank sits on the same image as the grid. For young readers it’s ideal: nothing to look up, just count the boxes and try the words that fit.

A grade 2 Halloween fill-in page with eight words (bat, cat, owl, moon, broom, candy, ghost, treat) crossing in an empty grid, a word bank grouped by 3, 4 and 5 letters, and the solved answer key beside it

This example was drawn with a short script for this article. It shows the kind of page you’d set up, not the product’s exact styling.

Two optional extras if you want the packet to feel bigger:

  • Sudoku Kids Edition makes 4×4 and 6×6 grids in numbers, letters or pictures you pick, each with a matching key. A 4×4 with four Halloween pictures is a party page a first grader can finish.
  • Picture Mazes builds mazes from folders of images. Use Halloween art you have the rights to sell.

Lay the puzzle pages out with Instant Puzzle Books, which comes with every edition. Keep the default 8.5 × 11 inch trim and 0.5 inch margins, one puzzle per page, and set the collation to puzzles first, then solutions, so the keys land together at the back.

Neither tool tries to be the other. Put together, they give a teacher one packet that works for the whole room, and that’s an easier sale than a packet that only fits half the class.

Make it TPT-ready

Teachers judge a listing in seconds. These are the details that make a Halloween packet easy to buy.

  • Name the grade and the content in the title. “Halloween Activity Packet, PreK-2, Tracing, Counting, Word Search, Answer Keys Included” tells a teacher everything. “Spooky Fun Pack” tells them nothing.
  • Label every page with its band. A small “PreK-K” or “Gr 1-2” in a corner saves the teacher from guessing.
  • Put the answer keys on separate pages at the back, so a teacher can photocopy the student pages without the answers.
  • Add a one-page teacher note that says which pages need scissors, crayons or reading.
  • Build the preview from the real pages. Show two picture pages, one puzzle page and one key page. Our TPT maze worksheets and TPT visual puzzle worksheets guides show how other picture-led listings handle previews and keys.
  • Use low-ink pages throughout. Teachers notice when a packet eats toner.

Licensing. TPT sells resources under its own license, which by default covers one teacher’s own classroom; other teachers need their own licenses. On our side, every paid edition of Puzzle Maker Pro lets you sell the finished puzzles and worksheets you make, and the editions page explains what each edition adds. The Builder’s license, per its sales page and terms, lets you sell finished PDF books. Read both, and TPT’s seller rules, before you list. This is general publishing guidance, not legal advice.

List it for this Halloween

Halloween is 31 October, and class parties land on or just before it. Teachers pull their party materials together in the second half of October, so a packet listed in the first half of the month is in front of them while they’re still choosing.

  • A TPT or Etsy listing is typically live as soon as you publish it. There’s no print run and no shipping. The fastest route is a digital packet, and it’s the one teachers want anyway, because they print as many copies as their class needs.
  • The Builder’s TPT description draft and listing images give you a head start on the listing itself, so finishing the pages is most of the work.
  • List early, then improve. A packet that’s live in the first half of October gets more teacher views than a perfect one that goes up on the 28th. You can add pages and upload a revised file later.

If you also want a print book from the same pages, a paperback goes through KDP and should be submitted this week; the Halloween activity book for kids guide covers that route and KDP’s timings.

A quick checklist before you list

  • Every page is labelled PreK-K or Gr 1-2.
  • No diagonal or backwards words on grade 1 pages.
  • Every answer key matches its page, and keys are on separate pages.
  • All pages are US Letter and low-ink.
  • The teacher note lists supplies.
  • The title says Halloween, the grade band, the activity types and “answer keys included”.

If a teacher asks for something harder, the Halloween crossword puzzles guide covers clued crosswords for older kids, and the Halloween word search book for adults is the grown-up end of the same theme.

FAQ

What should a Halloween activity packet for kindergarten include?

Picture-led pages that need almost no reading: tracing, counting, matching, simple mazes, patterns and coloring, plus a short teacher note and answer keys where they help.

What about grades 1 and 2?

Short word puzzles from a Halloween word list: a small word search with words across and down, a word scramble with hint letters, and a fill-in grid with a word bank grouped by length.

Can one packet cover preK to grade 2?

Yes, if every page is labelled with its band and the title says preK-2. Teachers with mixed or combo classes often prefer one packet.

How many pages should a class-party packet have?

Ten to twenty is a good range: enough for stations or a take-home set, short enough to print for a whole class.

Is there still time to sell a Halloween packet this year?

Yes. A TPT or Etsy listing is typically live as soon as you publish it, and teachers plan their parties in the second half of October. The sooner it’s listed, the more teachers see it.

Build the packet this week
