You already have the interior. A bound book with a trim, a Look Inside, and a solutions section at the back. The Etsy listing is not a second generation run. It is a cut: which pages become the pack, which stay exclusive to the book so the two listings do not compete, and where the keys live once the pages leave the spine.
That is a composition job. Puzzle Book Studio is the layer that holds the book you already assembled — page selection, hide, rebuild, re-render. The puzzles were made. This page is about recutting them.
The TPT vs Etsy vs KDP comparison owns the three-channel listing contract for a new asset. This page will not rewrite it. It owns the other job: cutting a pack from a book that already exists.
A pack is a slice, not a dump
The most common failure is uploading the KDP PDF. A long interior on Etsy is a book wearing the wrong shop: front matter the home printer does not want, a copyright brick as page one, and a page count no instant-download buyer asked for. The Etsy printables contract already states the pack shape — short, themed, page count named, keys in the file. This page assumes that contract and picks the pages.
A good cut has three properties:
- One theme. Fall word searches. Kindness quotes. Ocean mazes. The book may mix sections; the pack does not. One theme per file beats a leftover dump of every section that happened to sit in the project.
- A session, not a spine. Eight to twenty puzzle pages plus their keys is a typical pack. The book keeps its page count. The pack gets its own.
- A first page that reads as the listing. Etsy’s preview is a thumbnail. The pack should not open on a title page, a copyright page, a table of contents, or a “this book belongs to” leaf. Page one of the pack is a real puzzle page in the theme the listing promises.
In Puzzle Book Studio that cut is selection, not regeneration. Hide the collections and puzzles that stay in the book. Limit a collection when you only want a short run from a long one. Built-in furniture and custom text pages do not come off the same way. In Book Settings, turn off the pages that have a toggle — title page, copyright page, table of contents. A custom text page such as “this book belongs to” has no off switch: delete it from its properties card. Do that on a separately saved pack copy so the book assembly keeps the leaf. Rebuild. The remaining pages are the pack. Any live print module already composed as a book — word search, maze, number, logic — cuts the same way. The type does not change the job.
What stays exclusive to the book
The two listings will sit in the same catalog — yours — even if they sit in different shops. If the pack is the whole interior, the paperback has nothing left to sell that the ZIP did not already give away. The cut has to leave the book a reason to exist.
Keep exclusive to the book:
- The rest of the volume. The pack is a slice. The other sections, the other difficulties, the other themes stay on the spine. A buyer who wants the year of puzzles still has to buy the book.
- Book furniture. Title page, copyright, contents, how-to-use-this-book, page numbers that only make sense on a bound object. Those pages finish a paperback and clutter a ZIP.
- The long solutions section. The back-matter keys for the whole book belong in the paperback. The pack only takes the keys for the pages it ships.
What you may share: the theme slice itself. The same twelve fall grids can appear in the book and as the pack, because the book is still the rest of the year. What you must not share is the entire interior under a new cover. That is two listings of the same product, and it is the failure the three-channel article already named.
If you later group several of those packs into one listing, that is a bundle of packs — finished packs recomposed, not a second dump of the book.
Keys split with the cut
The solutions were generated with the puzzles. They travel as a pair in Studio: hide a puzzle and its key hides with it. The remaining decision is packaging.
- The book keeps the back-of-book section. All answers behind all puzzles, listed in the contents, several solutions per page. That is the answer-key convention a paperback buyer expects. Do not move those keys onto the page facing the puzzle, and do not ship the whole section into the ZIP.
- The pack puts keys in the file. A separate answer PDF next to the puzzle PDF, or key pages at the end of the one file. The listing says which. A pack that arrives without keys looks unfinished.
Same solution data. Two packages. The book buyer flips to the back. The pack buyer opens the ZIP. Do not hand the pack a long solutions appendix leftover from the interior — that is the book leaking into the download.
Re-render the slice. Do not regenerate it.
The puzzles are already made. The composition — which pages, in what order, with which keys — is the asset you change. The file that leaves Studio is a render of that composition.
Sell the same puzzles as PDF, images, and PowerPoint owns the format decision for one composition. For this cut the useful renders are the ones a home printer wants: page images for the ZIP and the listing photos, or an Image PDF that prints as previewed. The KDP interior stays the print-ready PDF of the full book. Two renders. One project, or one project per cut if you keep the long book and the short pack as separate assemblies of the same puzzles.

A playable sample on your own site is a different output class — print plus playable, not a third file in the ZIP.
Commercial rights to sell the finished puzzles as books and as printables are part of the Puzzle Maker Pro license, as stated on the homepage. Cutting a pack from a book you already composed does not change that. It is not a license you paste onto the buyer’s PDF.
The whole point
The book is finished. The pack is a cut of pages you already have: one theme, a session’s worth, no book furniture, keys in the ZIP, the rest of the volume left exclusive to the paperback so the two listings do not compete. Puzzle Book Studio is the selection and re-render step. No new generation. Just the interior, recut.
