How to Create Number Snake Puzzles in Puzzle Maker Pro

Summary:
Number Snake puzzles are created in Puzzle Maker Pro by choosing a puzzle mode, grid size, and difficulty, then generating and exporting each puzzle with its matching solution. This tutorial shows how to make your first puzzle and export publish-ready pages.

Overview

Number Snake produces number-path puzzles where the solver fills the missing numbers into one continuous chain. This tutorial walks through creating one in Puzzle Maker Pro, from opening the module to exporting a print-ready puzzle and solution. New to the puzzle itself? Required Modules

  • Puzzle Maker Pro – Number Snake
  • Puzzle Maker Pro – Number Snake Productivity Edition, required only for Time Saver, batch creation, JSON, HTML, Interactive PDF, and Puzzle Slides

Preparation

No word lists or images are needed. For your first puzzle, a 7×7 grid at Medium difficulty in Orthogonal mode is a comfortable starting point. Puzzle Maker Pro generates each puzzle with its matching solution at the same time.

Choose the Puzzle Mode

On the Settings tab, set Puzzle Mode to decide how consecutive numbers may connect:

  • Orthogonal — consecutive numbers touch up, down, left, or right only (classic Numbrix).
  • Diagonal — consecutive numbers may also touch diagonally (Hidato).

Set the Grid Size and Difficulty

  • Grid size sets the square board, from 4×4 to 12×12 (default 7). Larger grids hold more numbers and take longer to solve.
  • Difficulty is Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert. Higher difficulty generally prints fewer clues and demands more deduction.

Set the Quantity

Use Quantity to choose how many puzzles to generate — for example 1 to test, 25 for a small set, or 100+ for a publishing project. Every puzzle in a run is unique.

Show the Solution Path (optional)

On the Style tab, Show Solution Path draws the completed chain as a line on the solution image only — the puzzle image stays unchanged. It is handy for answer pages. When it is on, the module’s Solution Line style row controls that overlay’s colour and thickness.

Generate a Preview

Generate a preview to check the size, difficulty, and overall look before committing to a large quantity. Adjust the settings and preview again until it looks right.

Set the Title

On the Titles tab, choose a Smart Title. A Smart Title fills in the puzzle’s own details
automatically, so every page in a batch is labelled correctly without retyping. Number Snake offers more
options than most modules — the examples below are for a 7×7 Medium Diagonal puzzle:

  • Number Snakes – Grid Size — e.g. “Number Snakes – 7×7”
  • Number Snakes – Difficulty — e.g. “Number Snakes – Medium”
  • Number Snakes – Puzzle Mode — e.g. “Number Snakes – Diagonal” (an Orthogonal puzzle resolves to “Regular”)
  • Number Snakes – Grid Size – Difficulty — e.g. “Number Snakes – 7×7 – Medium”
  • Grid Size — e.g. “7×7”
  • Difficulty — e.g. “Medium”
  • Puzzle Mode — e.g. “Diagonal” (Orthogonal resolves to “Regular”)
  • Grid Size – Difficulty — e.g. “7×7 – Medium”
  • Custom — your own title text, used exactly as typed

The same options are available for the puzzle Description (the default reads “Fill in the missing numbers so that consecutive numbers are always next to each other.”). Smart Titles works the same way in every module — see the Smart Titles tutorial for how it works.

Export Your Puzzles

Export the puzzle and its solution as PNG, JPG, SVG, or PDF for worksheets and books. With the Productivity Edition you can also export JSON and HTML output (for the BookPublisherTools WordPress plugin and web play), Interactive PDF with fillable number cells, and Puzzle Slides for interactive PowerPoint.

Outcome

You can now create Orthogonal and Diagonal Number Snake puzzles with matching solutions, choose size and difficulty, and export them for print or digital use. To turn one set of settings into a whole book of unique puzzles, use Time Saver, and assemble finished or mixed books in Puzzle Book Studio (Productivity Edition).
