How Time Saver Works with Smart Numbers (Step-by-Step Example)

Summary:
Learn how Time Saver works with Smart Numbers to generate number sequence puzzles in bulk. This tutorial explains how Settings Summary rows work, how row-specific Smart Numbers configurations are edited, and how different puzzle sets are created in one batch.

Overview

This tutorial shows how the new Time Saver workflow behaves in a real module using Smart Numbers as an example.

Time Saver allows you to:

  • queue multiple Smart Numbers configurations
  • generate different puzzle sets in one run
  • combine preset-based and custom row setups

Each row acts as a complete Smart Numbers configuration.

Required Modules

  • Puzzle Maker Pro – Smart Numbers Productivity Edition

Preparation

Before using Time Saver:

  • Open Puzzle Maker Pro
  • Select the Smart Numbers module
  • Have basic familiarity with Smart Numbers settings and presets

Step-by-Step

1. Add Rows

Time Saver uses a row-based workflow.

You can:

  • click Add Row to create default Smart Numbers rows
  • use the Rows input to add multiple rows at once
  • click Add Rows (Select Presets) to create rows from existing Smart Numbers presets

Each row represents one Smart Numbers puzzle configuration.

2. Understand the Grid Columns

The Time Saver grid includes several important columns.

Preset

Shows which Smart Numbers preset the row uses.

Changing the preset:

  • reloads the row settings
  • clears the Modified state

Quantity

Defines how many puzzles that row should generate.

This quantity applies only to the current row.

Settings Summary

Displays a compact summary of the row configuration.

The summary can include:

  • difficulty
  • formulas per puzzle
  • enabled formula-family count/name
  • Start range
  • Step N range
  • Step M range
  • Pattern Size

Modified

Indicates whether the row contains custom embedded settings.

  • unchecked = uses the preset directly
  • checked = uses row-specific settings

3. Edit a Row

Click the Settings Summary cell to open the row editor.

The editor uses the same Smart Numbers settings interface as the main module window.

You can adjust:

  • difficulty
  • formula families
  • formulas per puzzle
  • Start Number range
  • Step N / Step M ranges
  • Pattern Size
  • hexadecimal rendering
  • answer indicator

This makes row editing consistent with normal Smart Numbers workflows.

4. Understand Modified Rows

Rows can behave in two different ways.

Unmodified Rows

  • reload the selected preset during processing
  • automatically reflect later preset updates

Modified Rows

  • store their own embedded Smart Numbers settings
  • remain independent from future preset changes

This allows both:

  • reusable preset workflows
  • stable row-specific customization

5. Generate Puzzles

To process the Time Saver grid:

  1. Return to the main window
  2. Enable Use Time Saver
  3. Click Create (TS)

Each row will generate its own Smart Numbers puzzle set.

6. Review Output

Each generated row becomes a separate puzzle set.

Differences in:

  • difficulty
  • formula families
  • ranges
  • pattern settings

will appear in the generated output.

When used with Puzzle Book Studio:

  • puzzle sets remain distinguishable
  • layouts can be adjusted per set

Outcome

You can now:

  • create multiple Smart Numbers puzzle batches
  • combine presets and custom row configurations
  • edit full Smart Numbers settings per row
  • generate multiple puzzle sets in one run
