How to Use Time Saver: Rows, Presets, and Batch Controls

Summary:
Learn how to use Time Saver in Puzzle Maker Pro to create puzzle batches using rows, presets, and batch controls. This tutorial explains how rows work, how Settings Summary and Modified states behave, and how to generate multiple Smart Numbers puzzle sets efficiently.

Overview

The new Time Saver workflow allows you to generate multiple Smart Numbers puzzle configurations in a single batch process.

Instead of manually:

  • changing settings
  • generating puzzles
  • repeating the process

Time Saver lets you:

  • queue multiple rows
  • combine presets and custom configurations
  • generate structured puzzle batches efficiently

This workflow is especially useful for:

  • puzzle books
  • progression-based collections
  • mixed difficulty sets
  • large batch generation

Required Modules

  • Puzzle Maker Pro – Smart Numbers Productivity Edition

Preparation

Before using Time Saver:

  • open Puzzle Maker Pro
  • become familiar with Smart Numbers presets and settings

Step-by-Step

1. Open the Time Saver Tab

Navigate to:

Time Saver

The Time Saver interface contains:

  • a row-based grid
  • batch controls
  • preset management tools

    Use the Rows Control

    The:

    Rows

input controls how many default rows will be added when:

    Add Row

    is clicked.

    Example:

    • Rows = 3
    • clicking Add Row creates 3 default Smart Numbers rows

    3. Add Default Rows

    Click:

    Add Row

to create rows using default Smart Numbers settings.

    New default rows:

    • contain embedded settings snapshots
    • start as Modified rows

These rows can immediately be customized independently.

    4. Add Rows from Presets

    Click:

    Add Rows (Select Presets)

to create rows from existing Smart Numbers preset files.

    Each preset creates:

    • one row
    • one puzzle configuration

    Preset rows initially:

    • remain unmodified
    • reload preset data dynamically during processing

    This is useful for:

    • reusable workflows
    • standardized puzzle batches

    5. Understand the Grid Columns

The Time Saver grid contains several important controls.

    Preset

Shows which Smart Numbers preset the row uses.

    Changing the preset:

    • reloads the row configuration
    • clears the Modified state

    Quantity

Defines how many puzzles that row generates.

This quantity applies only to the current row.

    Settings Summary

    The:

    Settings Summary

column displays a compact overview of the row configuration.

    This may include:

    • difficulty
    • formulas per puzzle
    • enabled formula-family count/name
    • Start range
    • Step N range
    • Step M range
    • Pattern Size

Clicking Settings Summary opens the row editor.

    Modified

    The:

    Modified

column shows whether the row contains embedded custom settings.

    Unmodified Rows

    • reload the selected preset during processing
    • automatically reflect later preset updates

    Modified Rows

    • store row-specific embedded settings
    • remain independent from future preset changes

    This supports both:

    • reusable preset workflows
    • stable custom configurations

    Edit a Row

    Click the:

    Settings Summary

    cell to open:

    Edit Smart Numbers Row Settings

The row editor uses the same Smart Numbers interface as the main module window.

    You can adjust:

    • difficulty
    • formula families
    • formulas per puzzle
    • Start Number range
    • Step N / Step M ranges
    • Pattern Size
    • hexadecimal rendering
    • answer indicators

This keeps row editing consistent with normal Smart Numbers workflows.

    Generate Puzzle Batches

    After configuring rows:

    1. Return to the main window
    2. Enable:
    Use Time Saver
    1. Click:
    Create (TS)

    Each row generates:

    • its own Smart Numbers puzzle set
    • its own configuration output

    8. Use Time Saver with Puzzle Book Studio

Each generated row remains distinguishable inside Puzzle Book Studio.

    This allows:

    • different layouts per set
    • progression-based puzzle books
    • mixed difficulty collections
    • organized puzzle sections

    Example:

    • Row 1 → Easy arithmetic puzzles
    • Row 2 → Medium digit-rule puzzles
    • Row 3 → Expert structural puzzles

    Outcome

    You can now:

    • use row-based Smart Numbers generation
    • combine presets and custom configurations
    • manage Modified and unmodified rows
    • generate multiple puzzle sets efficiently
    • build structured puzzle collections
