A Hitori interior is a number grid that arrives full. The solver shades cells out. In Look Inside that is the whole difference from another sudoku book: no empty squares, a scatter of black tiles, a page that does not match the four sudoku thumbnails above it.
Hitori is the generator. This page is the KDP listing: what the shopper sees, how long the file is, and why it is not a sudoku interior with a new cover. How the puzzle works is already written in How Hitori Puzzles Work. How to generate is How to Create Hitori Puzzles.
What Look Inside has to show
On Amazon the first interior pages are the pitch. A Hitori sample that opens on a copyright brick or a sudoku-shaped empty grid has already lost.
Show a real board: every cell has a number, a few cells are shaded, the rest are still in play. Print the rules once, short, on page one. Do not turn the sample into a how-to-play chapter. Shoppers who want sudoku will leave. Shoppers who want a number book that is not sudoku will stay.
Match the cover. If you promised large print, the first grid is large print. If you promised easy, the first grid is a small Easy, not a 12×12 Hard. Grid size is the stronger difficulty lever than the Easy / Medium / Hard band. A book that visibly climbs is 5×5 or 6×6 in the sample and larger boards later, not the same 9×9 with a new label.
The solution pages print shaded cells solid near-black. That is a print fact: toner, paper, and whether you put keys on the reverse of each puzzle or in a back section. Plan the file around a dark fill. Do not surprise yourself at proof.
Page count is the product
Each Hitori is a pair: puzzle sheet plus answer sheet. A hundred-puzzle title is about 200 interior pages before front matter. That clears typical print-on-demand minimums and it also sets the royalty. Padding Easy 5×5 boards to look thick is a different product from a climb that earns the page count.
There is no word list to source. Size, difficulty, quantity. That is why this interior is cheap to repeat as a series and why three related titles (small / mixed / large-print 12×12) are a catalog instead of one listing.
Puzzle Book Studio is the assembly step for trim, heads, and the key section. Instant Puzzle Books is the fast PDF from current settings. Time Saver (Productivity) is the batch that ramps size and difficulty in one run. None of those belong as steps here.
A Smart Numbers book is also a number interior. It is a missing-number line, not a full grid you shade. Different Look Inside, different listing. Do not merge them into “number puzzles vol. 1.”
Pictures or letters in the cells (Creative and up) make a different title: kids, seasonal, large symbols. Still a KDP interior. Still not a boxed jigsaw and not a rewrite of the product page.
What not to sell this as
Do not sell it as sudoku. The category may be number puzzles. The page is not a fill-in.
Do not sell the KDP PDF as a TPT worksheet or an Etsy pack. The four-channel map is that article. A classroom set wants fewer pages and a key you can withhold; a paperback wants the keys in the file.
Do not sell this listing as a website game. Interactive editions can export the same boards as web play, interactive PDF, or Puzzle Slides. The Amazon product is still the print interior.
Commercial rights for books on KDP are part of the Puzzle Maker Pro license as stated on the homepage. Check the edition you actually buy if you are selling. That is not a substitute for Amazon’s content rules.
The whole point
A Hitori KDP book is a shading-logic interior whose first pages do not look like sudoku. Show the full grid in Look Inside, climb by size, put the dark solution pages where the royalty can bear them, and leave the play guide and the generate walkthrough on the tutorials.
