Demo: See the plugin in action https://www.bookpublishertools.com/pmp_puzzle_set/queens-puzzles-demo/

Overview

This guide explains how to manually create or edit a Puzzle Set in WordPress using the Puzzle Maker Pro WordPress Plugin.
You’ll learn how to add existing puzzles, upload new ones, and organize them in a custom set — all directly inside WordPress.

Required Modules

  • Puzzle Maker Pro WordPress Plugin (free download from the Member Area)
  • Puzzle Maker Pro (to create your puzzle JSON + SVG files)

Preparation

  • Make sure each puzzle includes both a .json and a .svg file.
    • The two filenames must match exactly.
    • The JSON file contains a reference to the SVG — if you rename either file, update the filename inside the JSON as well.
  • Verify that your puzzles appear correctly in the Media Library after upload.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1️⃣ Create or Edit a Puzzle Set

  1. Go to Puzzle Sets → Add New, or edit an existing one.
  2. Add a title and optional description — this behaves like any WordPress post.
  3. Click Save Draft.

2️⃣ Add Puzzles to a Set

Option A — Bulk Add from Puzzles List

  1. Open Puzzles → All Puzzles.
  2. Select several puzzles using the checkboxes.
  3. In the Bulk Actions menu, choose Move to Puzzle Set.
  4. Pick the target set and click Apply.

Option B — Add Puzzles While Editing a Set

  1. While editing your Puzzle Set, scroll to the Puzzle Set Items box.
  2. Click Add Puzzle, then select puzzles from the list.
  3. Reorder them using the ⬆️ / ⬇️ arrows, or remove puzzles if needed.

Note: If you have uploaded many (100’s) puzzles, it’s important to name them properly. The best way to add is option A, option B is available so you don’t have to navigate away from the Puzzle Set page.

3️⃣ Upload New Puzzles Manually

If you want to add new puzzles not yet in your list:

  1. Go to Puzzles → Add New.
  2. Upload your .json and .svg files (both appear in the Media Library).
  3. The Puzzle Type is automatically detected from the JSON — do not change it manually, as mismatches will prevent the viewer from working.

Note: This is available as a fallback, we really recommend to add zip-files with puzzles, this makes it easier to control the pairs of puzzle files.

4️⃣ Configure Puzzle Set Options

  1. Credits are global — they can be turned on or off in Settings → Puzzle Maker Pro, not per set.
  2. The timer and verify/reset buttons are always enabled (future versions may include per-set options).
  3. You can add introductory or closing text in the editor — it’s a normal post body area.

5️⃣ Publish and Embed

  1. Copy the shortcode shown at the top of the Puzzle Set edit screen:
  2. Paste it into any post or page.
  3. Publish — your interactive puzzles will appear immediately.

6️⃣ Maintenance & Best Practices

  • Keep each Puzzle Set focused — 5 to 10 puzzles works best.
  • Keep your audience and marketing strategy in mind – you may wish to create a set per theme
  • You can sell the puzzle packs (per theme or puzzle type), your customers can use the WordPress plugin as well
  • Update your sets weekly or monthly instead of keeping huge archives.
  • Use clear, logical puzzle names for easier management.

Outcome

✅ You can now manually create and manage puzzle sets — add puzzles in bulk, upload new ones, reorder them, and publish them interactively on your WordPress site, all without FTP or external uploads.
