Styling and Branding Box Code Puzzles

Overview

This tutorial explains how to control the visual style and branding of Box Code puzzles.
You will learn how fonts, colors, borders, titles, and branding elements affect the final puzzle output.

Styling and branding settings allow you to create professional, consistent puzzles for books, worksheets, magazines, and branded content.

Required Module

Preparation

Have at least one Box Code puzzle visible in the preview so styling changes are immediately visible.

Step-by-Step: Styling and Branding

1. Open the Style tab

All visual appearance settings for Box Code puzzles are controlled from the Style tab.

2. Choose fonts for letters and codes

Select the font used for:

  • The decoded letters
  • The encoded symbols (numbers or letters, if applicable)

Font size and case settings directly affect readability, especially for kids or print use.

3. Set background and cell colors

You can control:

  • Puzzle background color
  • Cell fill color

Transparent backgrounds can be used when puzzles are placed on colored pages or custom layouts.

4. Adjust borders and lines

Line settings define:

  • Cell border width and color
  • Puzzle outline width and color

Clear borders improve legibility in print and digital formats.

5. Enable Smart Titles

Open the Smart section to set the Smart Title and Smart description for the puzzle.

Enabling these options is done with the Set Branding option on the Puzzle output Options tab.

When branding is enabled, Box Code automatically applies:

  • A title
  • Optional description
  • Watermark or URL
  • Logo (if configured globally)

6. Use smart titles

Titles can be:

  • Generated automatically from content mapping
  • Set to a custom value

This allows puzzle pages to remain consistent across books or batches.

7. Optional smart descriptions

Descriptions are optional and typically used for:

  • Short solver instructions
  • Context for themed puzzles

Descriptions appear below or near the title, depending on layout.

8. Apply watermark and logo

Branding can include:

  • A watermark or website URL
  • A logo with automatic scaling and positioning

These elements help protect content and maintain brand identity.

9. Preview styled puzzles

Use the preview selector to confirm:

  • Fonts remain readable
  • Colors have enough contrast
  • Branding does not overlap puzzle content

Adjust styling until the puzzle looks clean and balanced.

Tips

  • Use simple, high-contrast styles for kids and educational puzzles
  • Keep styling consistent within a puzzle book
  • Transparent backgrounds work well with custom page designs
  • Avoid overly decorative fonts for encoded symbols
  • Save styled setups as presets for reuse

Outcome

After completing this tutorial, you can:

  • Control fonts, colors, and borders
  • Apply automatic titles and descriptions
