FAQ: Why Is My Number Maze Empty or Too Hard to Solve?

If your puzzle preview shows no path, ends too early, or looks too hard — this guide will help you fix it fast. These are common issues when working with filters, steps, or ranges in the Number Mazes module.

🧩 Overview

Number Mazes give you lots of creative control — but that also means it’s easy to set rules that make a maze unsolvable. This guide covers common mistakes and how to adjust settings to keep your puzzles working and fun.

⚠️ Common Problems and Fixes

1. I Used “Only Squares” and Got Very Few Numbers

Cause: Square numbers are sparse. You might not have enough to build a full maze.

Fixes:

  • Use Min = 1, Max = 100 to get squares like 4, 9, 16, …, 100.
  • Try “Multiples of X” if you want more numbers to work with.

2. Filter + Step Conflicts in Ordered Mode

Example: Start = 2, Step = 3 → Sequence = 2, 5, 8, 11…
Filter = “Multiples of 2” → This will fail (only 2 is valid)

Fix: Either:

  • Change step to something that produces valid matches (e.g., Step = 2)
  • Change filter to match your sequence

3. Puzzle Too Hard? Try These:

  • Turn OFF Fake Paths and Fake Exits
  • Turn OFF Meandering
  • Use Ordered mode for clearer, linear mazes
  • Keep filters simple (Even, Multiples of 3, etc.)

4. Puzzle Too Easy? Add Challenge:

  • Enable Meandering and Fake Exits
  • Use filters like:
  • Digit Sum = X
  • Must Contain Digit
  • Randomize Start or Finish for variety
